Carissa graduated in 2011 from Gordon College Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Theatre and Fine Art. During her time in school, she painted several shows, including a summer working as props master, set dresser, and scenic assistant with Gloucester Stage Company. During her senior year, she scenic charged Pirates of Penzance in addition to opening her Senior Thesis for Fine Art, COMMON, a collaborative art show exploring how the classic elements of plot structure universally apply to the human experience.
Upon graduation, Carissa spent three weeks with Cobalt Studios, focusing on scenic painting techniques. While studying with Cobalt, Carissa was offered a position with Stoneham Theatre in properties, scenic dressing, and scenic painting. She spend a brief time with the company before realizing she desired a more collaborative company.
Fall 2011, Carissa joined the young Theatre Company with the YMCA of the North Shore. Carissa worked part time in stage management before joining the company full time in 2013 as the Associate Performing Arts Director. Her responsibilities included production design and implementation for up to 13 productions a year. Carissa continues to freelance paint and design in her spare time, especially for her Alma Mater, Gordon College.
Creative Arts Director at YMCA of the North Shore

The Creative Arts Director responsibilities primarily include production design and management of all YMCA Theatre Company productions. In addition, the Creative Arts Director oversees administration, curriculum, and staffing for the Summer Camp program, rentals of Ames Memorial Hall, and Fine Arts Programs with the YMCA of the North Shore. This position requires excellent attention to detail, multitasking, prioritizing, organization, communication, and patience, not to mention a creative eye and excellent problem solving.
Associate Performing Arts Director at YMCA of the North Shore

The Associate Performing Arts Director oversees administration, curriculum, and staffing for the Theatre Arts Programs with the YMCA of the North Shore. Theatre Arts Programs include classes and licensed summer camp programs. Additionally, the Associate Performing Arts Director oversees the technical elements of theatre productions and assists the Performing Arts Director as needed.
Stage Manager at YMCA of the North Shore
September 2011 – September 2013 Salem, MA
A Stage Manager with the YMCA of the North Shore attends all rehearsals for her assigned production. She is responsible for all parent/actor communication as well as logistical needs for rehearsals and performances. The Stage Manager coordinates and recruits parent volunteers as well as managing rehearsal schedules, actor calls, properties and other backstage needs, creating the call book, managing junior staff, and calling the show for performances.
Scenic Paint, Props Master, and Scenic Dresser at Stoneham Theatre

The position is responsible for acquiring all properties required for the contracted production as specified by stage management or the scenic designer, including set dressings. She is additionally responsible for all paint and scenic treatments required by the design as presented by the designer. She must stay within her specified budget and meet tight deadlines.

Stage Manager: Spring Showcase at Boston Ballet School
Stage Managing for the Boston Ballet School requires organizing classes of students through their dress rehearsals and performance. Stage Manager primarily keeps rehearsal and performance on time, she also calls the cues and leads run crew for rehearsals and performances. Carissa has filled this role for the North Shore Studio in 2014 and for all studios in 2015. Carissa unfortunately is unavailable to Stage Manage in 2016.
